As expected, Shaedon Sharpe has committed to the Kentucky Wildcats. He’s the first player since Nerlens Noel to pick Kentucky and be ranked No. 1 overall in his class in multiple recruiting services.
Sharpe had a historic rise in the rankings in 2021, going from ranked 90th in September of 2020, to No. 1 in September of 2021. A full calendar year.
Sharpe becomes the second domino to fall in the class of 2022, setting in motion what could be an absolutely monster class, something that Kentucky hasn’t seen in some time.
There’s a legitimate chance for the Wildcats to also land three top-10 prospects, something they haven’t achieved since the class of 2016.
The next player to pop is, scheduled, to be Chris Livingston, a consensus top-10 prospect and the No. 1 small forward. He will announce in October.
Next scheduled is Cason Wallace, the No. 1 combo guard in the class. He will announce in November, although that could be moved up.
Dereck Lively, who’s actually pushing Sharpe for the top spot and is currently No. 1 at 247 Sports, is also someone Kentucky is strongly in the mix for, if not the outright favorite.
Are the Wildcats starting to become the kings of the recruiting world again?
Here’s how Twitter reacting to the Wildcats landing the No. 1 player in the land:

Absolutely love this kid. Kentucky fans are gonna LOVE him.
I honestly couldn’t come up with a significant weakness in Shaedon Sharpe’s game after watching him multiple times at the Peach Jam. https://t.co/XTMU8WVWHs

Shaedon Sharpe, the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2022, has committed to Kentucky, he told ESPN. Cal is washed. Penny owns Cal. G league owns Cal. No one wants to play for Kentucky anymore. 9-16.

After the summer of 2020, I wrote about how some players missed out on the chance to become national names due to coaches not going on the road — the headliner was then-unranked Shaedon Sharpe.
