It’s officially gameday in the Bluegrass as the Kentucky Wildcats kick off their 2021 season by hosting Louisiana Monroe.
Kentucky enters 2021 with high expectations as they are expected to be among the biggest threats to win the SEC East behind the favored Georgia Bulldogs.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Cats return three of their five starters from their outstanding offensive line, bring back leading rusher Chris Rodriguez, who enters the season thought of as the best running back in the SEC, and last year’s leading receiver in Josh Ali.
They also have added two key pieces via the transfer portal, as Kentucky native and former Paul Hornung Award finalist Wan’Dale Robinson has transferred into his home state program, and former Penn State quarterback Will Levis will take over for three-year starter Terry Wilson, who transferred to New Mexico.
On defense, the Wildcats lost several key starters to the NFL and brought back plenty of talent, including starting safety Yusuf Corker, inside linebacker De’Andre Square, and outside linebacker Jordan Wright.
The Wildcats schedule is among the more favorable in the SEC, as they’ll face non-conference foes Louisiana-Monroe, Chattanooga of the FCS, New Mexico State, and arch-rival Louisville, who they have outscored 101-23 in their previous two matchups combined.
In conference play, the Wildcats will play their entire SEC East Division slate with home games with Florida and Tennessee and a road trip to Georgia. They will also have their annual matchup with SEC West rival Mississippi State in Starkville.
Finally, in their rotational SEC West matchup, they’ll host 2019 National Champion LSU, who is coming off a 5-5 2020 title defense season.
With all that said, how many games will the Wildcats win this season, including a potential SEC Title game and bowl berth?
