After not playing the last two Saturday’s due to a hamstring injury, Florida Gators backup QB Anthony Richardson will be ready to play against the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend.
Dan Mullen spoke to the media on Wednesday and said that Richardson is “100%” for the game this weekend.
“He’s ready to go, 100% ready to go,” Mullen said during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday. “We’re excited to have him back and ready to go play. He’s a dynamic player.”
Richardson was one of the hottest names in the conference through the first two games, as he became a solid option as Emory Jones struggled to start the season, though Jones remains the starter with Richardson providing a spark off the bench.
Through two games, Richardson has thrown for 192 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding 275 rushing yards and another two touchdowns on the ground.
At 6-foot-4 and 236 pounds, Richardson is a tremendous athlete who uses his size and speed to keep defenses on their toes. Mark Stoops knows that he can do a little bit of everything, and Kentucky should expect to see quite a bit of him on Saturday night.
“He’s a big, strong, fast, good-looking athlete, and can throw the ball exceptionally well, too,” Stoops said during his Monday presser.
Containing Richardson will be key as a big play very well could be the difference in determining who leaves Kroger Field with the win.
Up until the injury, it looked like Richardson would eventually take over the reins full-time, but after a few solid outings from Jones, it appears that his job might be safe for a little while longer.
But if things start to go south for the offense during the game, fans should fully expect to see Mullen make the change for Richardson for a few series at least.
And if nothing else, Richardson will be deployed for a play or two here and there to keep Kentucky’s defense on its toes.
