The Kentucky Wildcats will look to do something they have not done in 35 years Saturday night: Beat the Florida Gators at home. Kickoff is set for 6 pm ET on ESPN.
While Kentucky ended their 31-game losing streak to the Gators in 2018 with a win at the Swamp, UK has not beaten their SEC East rivals in Lexington since 1986.
The Wildcats, who enter play as eight-point home underdogs, are 4-0 on the season, but neither of their last two wins were pretty. They survived a 28-23 slugfest against FCS foe Chattanooga in Week 3, then defeated South Carolina 16-10 on the road last week, despite turning the ball over three times.
On the year, Kentucky has a -9 turnover differential, which ranks among the worst in the nation.
If that trend continues Saturday, they will have just about no chance to defeat Dan Mullen’s Gators, who enter play 3-1 with their lone loss being a narrow 31-29 defeat at home to defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Florida had a chance to tie that game in the final minutes but were stuffed on a two-point conversion attempt by the Tide’s defense.
The Gators, who are ranked No. 10 in the AP poll, own wins over Florida Atlantic, South Florida and Tennessee. They have scored at least 35 points in each of their three wins, including 38 vs. the Volunteers at home last week.
