Another positive update for what could be “historic” recruiting class for Kentucky basketball

The buzz is building.

Cason Wallace The Cats Pause

John Calipari is trying to build something special in terms of his 2022 recruiting class. On Friday, another positive update came out regarding one of the key recruits this staff is trying to add in Cason Wallace.

The 5-star guard is coming off his official visit to Kentucky, who is now perceived to have locked down the top spot in his recruitment.

How much so?

Enough that Travis Branham of 247 Sports is confident enough to put in a crystal ball pick to UK with over two months until his announced commitment date, which is set for November 7th. He recently cut down his list to four schools in which Tennessee, Texas, and UTSA are featured alongside the Kentucky Wildcats.

Currently in the Class of 2022, Kentucky holds a commitment from Skyy Clark and is expected to land Shaedon Sharpe when he commits this coming Tuesday.

Branham expects Wallace to be that next piece.

“Wallace’s decision is not expected to come until late September - at the earliest - and by that point he is looking to be Kentucky’s third five-star commitment in the class joining Skyy Clark and Shaedon Sharpe, who is set to announce his decision on September 7th.”

Alongside these three key pieces, Kentucky also sits in good shape with top-five player Dereck Lively II, who took a visit to campus earlier this summer. They are also considered a serious contender for 5-star big man Adem Bona, who is set to visit in early October.

Finally, the Wildcats are also picking up steam in the final stages of Chris Livingston’s recruitment. Livingston, a 5-star forward, is set to announce his commitment on October 15th.

Branham offered a positive update on those recruitments as well.

“Sources indicate that not only are they expected to get Sharpe and Wallace but they are making serious headway for another elite prospect in Chris Livingston and are also deeply involved with the No. 1 player in the class - Dereck Lively.”

There has been a narrative circulating the last several seasons that Coach Cal had lost a step on the recruiting trail. Overall, that statement might have been true, but after last season, he knew something had to change.

With the staff shakeup this offseason, he has put together one of the best recruiting staffs of his tenure, and it is going to pay off.

Swaggy Cal is back folks, and it seems that he will be here to stay.
