The Kentucky Wildcats coaching staff is trying to pull off a major victory in the recruitment of Lebbeus Overton, as they go toe-to-toe with the perennial powers of college football. It seems like that fight will continue, as some good news came out this morning regarding UK.
According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, Overton will be taking a visit to Lexington next weekend for its home-game against UT-Chattanooga. He will arrive to campus on Friday, Sept. 17th and stay through Sunday.
At 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, Overton is currently ranked as a 5-star prospect and the No. 1 player by 247 Sports and ESPN in the Class of 2023.
The Kentucky connection runs deep with Overton, and could play a major factor in his recruitment. His mother, Eunice Thomas, was a star volleyball player for the Cats in the early 1990s. Alongside her, Lebbeus is also close with former Kentucky football player Donte Rumph, who is a trainer in the Alpharetta area.
Overton picked up an offer from Kentucky in August, and they are competing against the best of the best to secure his commitment. He released his top 12 a few weeks back, which also features the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Clemson Tigers, LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, Florida Gators, USC Trojans, Texas A&M Aggies, Tennessee Volunteers, and North Carolina Tar Heels.
Overton is coming off a recent visit to Charlotte for the Georgia-Clemson game this past weekend. He also visited Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M throughout the summer.
Early momentum in this recruitment has been in his father’s alma mater favor in Oklahoma. Kentucky getting a visit though is a positive sign and will only help in the long run of this recruitment.
