Could Crowdus actually be back in time for Kentucky’s opening game?

After it appeared Dekel Crowdus suffered a potentially season-ending injury Thursday, the freshman wide receiver now may be back on the field when the regular season begins.

Saturday, head coach Mark Stoops announced that Crowdus did not tear any ligaments in his knee. Instead, it’s a ligament strain that will keep the 4-star recruit sidelined for a couple of weeks.

That means Crowdus could be back for Week 1 vs. Louisiana Monroe, which is exactly three weeks from today. While the Wildcats should win that game easily without Crowdus, the following week against Missouri is one of their most important games of the season, so ideally he’s back to 100% by then.

Though he’s only a true freshman, Crowdus has already been impressing with his speed and ability to stretch the defense, something Kentucky has been severely lacking since Jeff Badet left town in 2017.

Crowdus has drawn comparisons to NFL star Brandin Cooks.
