As expected.

The No. 1 overall transfer in college hoops has made his decision, and he won’t be transferring after all.

Kofi Cockburn announced Friday he will return to Illinois for his junior season. He was also considering the Florida State Seminoles.

Cockburn and the Kentucky Wildcats had been linked together ever since he announced he would be transferring from Illinois. His main recruiter at Illinois was Orlando Antigua. One of the main reasons Cockburn entered his name into the transfer portal was Antigua and fellow Illinois assistant Chin Coleman left for Kentucky.

Cockburn even told ESPN that Kentucky was a “serious option” following his decision to withdraw from the NBA Draft.

“Kentucky? It’s a serious option. Antigua is my guy. I’m going to consider them, but there is a lot of schools. I wasn’t really focused on that while I was in the NBA Draft. Now I can take my time and evaluate it better.”

However, things never progressed far enough between Kentucky and Cockburn, as John Calipari allegedly never even spoke to the All-American center who will now be one of the top national player of the year favorites next season.

On to the next one.
