In a meeting with local media today, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops released some more information on the consequences that have come from Jovon Bouknight’s arrest on May 8th.
Bouknight was arrested in Kenton County for operating a a vehicle under the influence, speeding 26 miles per hour over the speed limit, and was charged for possession of an open alcoholic container in the vehicle.
Kernel Sports gave the update on Twitter this morning on Stoops’ statement about Bouknight.
On wide receivers coach Jovon Bouknight’s status with the program:

“He is suspended at this point in time. He’s been on unpaid suspension since the time it happened.”
Bouknight, who was hired in March 2020, was arrested on May 8 and charged with driving under the influence.
Bouknight was hired from Oregon in March of 2020. Before that, he had a brief stint at Texas Tech and spent 10 years at Utah State prior to that.
There was a lot of speculation as to what would happen with Bouknight after his arrest. The wide receiver coach position is the one staff position that Stoops has had a hard time hitting on in his time at Kentucky. So the thought of a potential switch, with quite possibly the best receiver core in Stoops tenure, and especially so late in the offseason, it would have been hard to find a good replacement.
It was reported by Matt Jones of KSR a while back that this matter was being handled internally, and here are some details of how it has been going. It doesn’t seem as if the university will be moving on from Bouknight this season.
It is also worth noting that Bouknight signed a two-year deal in 2020, and this is the final year on his current contract.
