When Jai Lucas joined the Kentucky staff last season, the Cats instantly started to gain some traction with prospects in the state of Texas. One of those prospects is five-star guard Keyonte George.

George, a 6-5 190 pound, out of Lewisville (TX), is currently in the process of taking several official visits, and one of them was to his home-state school of Texas.

In an article posted this week by Rivals basketball recruiting director Rob Cassidy, he gave some of his thoughts on the five biggest visits of June. You can find the whole article in the tweet below.

According to Cassidy, it seems that it is all etched in stone that George ends up playing for Chris Beard in Austin. Here is what he had to say:

“Texas and Texas Tech were considered co-leaders of sorts before the program’s respective coaching changes, so when the Longhorns landed Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard, UT seemed like a tailor made situation for the five-star guard. George’s official to Austin felt a lot like a trip to confirm the ideas he already had about the Texas program under its new but familiar head coach. The star guard returned from the trip talking about how close the players were and how Beard interacted with them.”

Kentucky’s chances with George have been viewed as realistic due to his relationship with Lucas. It sounds like that battle is getting tougher, but once he visits Lexington, hopefully that can help the Cats gain some ground.

Alongside Kentucky and Texas, George is considering Kansas, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. He is currently ranked as the No. 6 overall prospect, according to 247 Sports Composite, which also lists him as the No. 1 shooting guard in the Class of 2022 as well.

Time to see if this Kentucky staff can pull of a recruiting upset in the coming months.
