Hard to argue with him.

Louisville Cardinals JUCO transfer El Ellis spoke to the media Tuesday. He was asked which NBA players he models his game after, and this was the answer that he gave.

Louisville fans couldn’t have liked that answer. Usually whenever UofL, current UofL players, or professional former Cardinals are slandered in anyway or whenever Kentucky Wildcats are propped up over Louisville players, their fanbase takes to social media to scold the offender.

But in this case, Louisville fans are caught between a rock and a hard place here, because they really need El Ellis to be good for their team to succeed this season. If they come over the hill on one of their own for slandering NBA guards like Terry Rozier or Donovan Mitchell, then it’ll be a really bad look on them.

The fact of the matter is young players like El Ellis grew up watching John Wall, De’Aaron Fox and other former UK players in the NBA. UofL didn’t have anybody and they still have very few compared to Kentucky. Like embarrassingly few compared to Kentucky.

I applaud Ellis’ honesty and forthright nature. Kentucky routinely gets the best of the best and sends them directly to the NBA to make millions of dollars and he recognizes that.

He gets to play against another future NBA star in TyTy Washington this season. Maybe he can get an autograph!
