The Kentucky Wildcats are going to have a tough non-conference schedule in 2021-22 and now we know who they will play in the Big12/SEC Challenge.
The SEC has announced that the Cats will make a trip on January 29th to face the Kansas Jayhawks in Allen Fieldhouse. Start times and network designations will be announced at a later date.
Gary Parrish of CBS Sports currently has the Jayhawks ranked as the No. 3 team heading into next season and the Cats slated at No. 15.
By the time January rolls around, we will have a much better sense of how good each team is, and it could set up a massive showdown between two top teams heading into the last month of the regular season.
Kentucky leads the overall series 23-10 against Kansas with the Jayhawks winning the previous matchup (65-62) last December in the Champions Classic. Despite Kentucky leading the overall series, the Jayhawks have won 4 out of the last 5 matchups.
This will be the first time that the Cats have played a road game at Kansas since January 30, 2016 when the Jayhawks beat Kentucky 90-84 in overtime.
It’s always a battle when these two blue bloods face off against one another and I expect this matchup will be the same way with both teams expecting to have big seasons.
