We can cross one option off the 2022 big board for the Kentucky Wildcats.
Dior Johnson, the No. 1 point guard in his class, has committed to the Oregon Ducks. Jonathan Givony broke the news first.
Breaking: Five-star recruit Dior Johnson, one of the top NBA prospects in the 2022 high school class, has committed to Oregon, he told ESPN. https://t.co/GnYlqyIzXy— Jonathan Givony (@DraftExpress) June 22, 2021
Johnson recently announced his final five, which included Kentucky, the Australian NBL, Alabama and Washington. He was previously committed to Syracuse but decommitted in November of 2020.
The 6-3, 180-pound Johnson currently plays at Centennial High School in California and is ranked No. 7 overall in 2022 by 247 Sports Composite. He holds additional offers from Arizona State, Georgia Tech, LSU, Memphis, Ole Miss, TCU and Western Kentucky among others.
Initially, Johnson had set a decision date for June 25th, but he opted instead to announce three days early.
Here is what 247 Sports’ Jerry Meyer had to say about Johnson, which includes a comparison to former Wildcats star De’Aaron Fox.
“Good length and stature for a point guard. Quick athlete with superb body control. Has tremendous instincts as a driver and passer. Delivers the difficult pass. Finishes the difficult shot. High level lay up maker. Has multiple fade away moves to his right shoulder. Shoots the ball well enough to be considered a three-level scorer. Has potential to rebound his position well and be a dangerous versatile defender. Has bounced around to multiple high school which some view as a yellow flag.”
