Tuesday Headlines: Cullan Brown Edition

Mineral Mounds Golf Course will soon be renamed in honor of a UK golfer who passed away last year

UK Athletics

Mineral Mounds Golf Course in Eddyville will soon be renamed in honor of the late Cullan Brown, a Lyon County native and UK golfer who passed away last August following a battle with cancer at the age of 20.

The course will be renamed “The Cullan at Mineral Mounds State Park” in honor of Brown, who grew up learning the game at that course.

The Brown family was first informed of the name change by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear on Tuesday of last week. It was an effort that was initiated by Kentucky Parks Commissioner Russell Meyer, according to WPSD in Paducah.

Brown was well-known in his hometown and made quite the impact in Lexington upon his arrival to UK, placing 9th in the SEC championships as a freshman and made the cut at the PGA Barbasol Championship in Lexington as an amateur.

It’s a fitting honor for someone gone way too soon.
