John Calipari and his newly revamped coaching staff are continuing their assault on the high school basketball recruiting trail.

Cal and his guys remain out in full force applying constant pressure on the top programs in America.

It’s starting to feel as if the ‘Cats could be well on their way to regaining the college basketball recruiting throne.

Yet another example of Kentucky’s persistence with communication is Zion Cruz — a highly coveted 2022 five-star combo guard from New Jersey.

Cruz doesn’t yet hold an offer from UK, but he wasn’t shy about his desire to get one while speaking with Adam Zagoria of Zags Blog.

“I really want an offer from there. Hopefully they’ll come out and see me at Peach Jam.” Cruz said.

Currently, 247 Sports ranks him as the top player in the state of New Jersey and the 17th best player overall in his class.

If Kentucky decides they are serious about signing Cruz there will be some very familiar correlations during in his recruitment.

For starters, he plays at The Patrick School in New Jersey, a place that’s been very good to UK by injecting both Nick Richards and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist into the program.

In another fun twist, former UK assistant Joel Justus will be heavily involved in Cruz’s recruitment as he attempts to sway him to Arizona State.

Zion Cruz has been busy the last few weeks taking visits to both Auburn and Oregon.

Zagoria also reported that Bruce Pearl was due to follow up Cruz’s June 4th visit by watching him play on Sunday.

There’s a long way to go in this one, but it’s refreshing to hear a caliber player like Zion Cruz anxiously awaiting a potential Kentucky offer.

The Peach Jam is slated to be a monster 12-day event this year taking place in North August, GA between July 13-25.

You can guarantee Kentucky coaching staff will have a heavy presence throughout the duration of the event scouting players like Zion Cruz and others.
