Happy Friday, BBN. The weekend is upon us and I hope you end the work week on a good note.
There has been a lot of news this week in regards to college athletics. The NCAA faced Congress in discussions about NIL laws and it looks like the college football playoff is going to expand from four teams to twelve teams.
Power 5 Conference champs will be automatic qualifiers as well as a Group of 5 team. The most exciting proposal here is that the top four teams will receive a by week while teams 5-12 will play home playoff games instead of neutral field bowls. We’ve never seen a playoff atmosphere in a college football stadium and I cannot wait until it happens.
Honestly I don’t understand why it’s taken college football this long to adopt more teams for the Playoff. It has been extremely popular as constructed and who doesn’t love MORE college football?

Quickies
John Calipari compares Hopkins to PJ Washington | Cats Pause- Bryce Hopkins has been getting a lot of love lately. If the versatile forward can be like PJ Washington then we have a good one on our hands.
Cats land a good player for a position of need | Cats Illustrated- Jacquez Jones led Ole Miss in tackles last season. Coach Sumrall got a high end SEC starter to fill the linebacker position.
UK basketball mailbag | Courier-Journal- Jon Hale looks at the staff shake ups and predicts the starting five for the season. My way too early guess: Tyty Washington, Kellan Grady, Jacob Toppin, Keion Brooks, Oscar Tshiebwe.
Cats advance to finals for the NCAA track and field championship | UK Athletics- Masai Russell, Faith Ross, Celera Barnes, and the 4X400 relay time qualified for the finals yesterday. They will run Saturday in Eugene, Oregon.
Tracking the upcoming basketball recruit visits | KSR- It’s going to be busy in Lexington as John Calipari is set to host a number of elite players. The additions of Orlando Antigua and Chin Coleman seem to already be paying off.
Seven ways Mark Stoops can get things rolling in 2021 | LHL- Kentucky football could make a splash this upcoming season but the QB position needs to be good if the Cats want to make noise in the SEC East.
Six SEC teams prepare for Super Regionals | SDS- There will likely be a heavy SEC presence in Omaha.
Donovan Mitchell dominates again as the Jazz take 2-0 lead | CBS- I don’t think anybody thought Mitchell was going to be THIS good when he was at UofL.
Bo Schembechler scandal rocks Michigan football | ESPN- The former Michigan football coach and legend Bo Schembechler was aware that a school physician was allegedly molesting players across multiple sports and did nothing to stop him. One of the alleged victims was Schembechler’s own son.
Bob Baffert makes his case | USA Today- Now there is an argument over the size of the urine sample used to determine if illegal substances were in the Medina Spirit’s system.
Bucks save season in game 3 | Sporting News- The game was ugly but the result was beautiful for Bucks fans and Nets haters. Can Milwaukee improve their offense? That effort is going to be good enough to finish off the explosive Nets.
