Liam Draxl’s magical season unfortunately came to an end Thursday during the NCAA Championship Semifinals. Though his team made their departure from the postseason almost three weeks ago, Draxl managed to carve his way into the Final Four for a matchup against Florida’s Sam Riffice. Draxl, the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, lost 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-1 to end his run.
During his first full year at Kentucky, Draxl lived above all expectations. To earn the top-seed in the tournament is an incredible accomplishment and to make it to where you’re one game away from the championship game is certainly something to be proud of.
The good news for Draxl, and for Kentucky fans, is he’ll have at least 1-2 more cracks at bringing home the NCAA Men’s Singles Championship. After all, he’s only a sophomore and will probably surprise us all with how much room he has to grow and improve his craft.
Hats off to Liam Draxl on an incredible season and magical run that unfortunately came up one game short.
