It apparently didn’t take much for the Kentucky Wildcats to make 2022 five-star guard Dior Johnson’s final five.
Speaking with Rob Cassidy of Rivals at the Circuit League IV event in Texas, Johnson opened up about how UK landed on his recently released final five.
“Honestly, I had it all set, Johnson said. “I was gonna announce a final four with three colleges [and the NBL], but when Kentucky found out I was making that cut, they called me and I ended up adding them right then. We were already in contact, but it wasn’t too crazy. When I announced I was cutting it down, they reached out and had a good talk.”
It seems a last-minute call from Kentucky was all Johnson needed to put them on his list, which is a good sign that the program is still thought of in high regard despite going 9-16 last season.
Johnson’s final list also includes Alabama, Washington, Oregon and the NBL. He is rated as the fourth-best prospect in the nation for 2022 by Rivals, the top-ranked prospect in the state of California and the top-ranked point guard.
