It may be wise for the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team to open a permanent recruiting office somewhere in the state of Texas.
The Lone Star State has already been overly friendly to the Cats in the John Calipari era. And with the addition of Jai Lucas, you can expect it to become a regular pipeline for UK in the coming years.
Next up on the radar is Cason Wallace — a 6-foot-3, 175-pound combo-guard from Richardson (TX).
Currently, 247 Sports ranks him as the 16th-best prospect in the class of 2022.
It comes as no surprise that Jai Lucas is keeping his arms around Wallace as he enters the final summer before his senior year of high school.
Although he’s yet to set any official visits, Wallace is hearing from quite a few programs, including Kentucky.
Travis Branham caught up with the five-star prospect and got some details about the current state of his recruitment.
“I talk to [Jai] Lucas. He has been telling me about the culture a little bit. We speak pretty often.” He told 247 Sports.
Wallace admitted that Tennessee recently offered and that’s one visit he’s planning to take. Kentucky will also have the expected competition from the in-state powerhouses like Texas, and defending National Champion, Baylor.
There’s still a long way to go in Cason Wallace’s recruitment but he’s sure to be highly sought after because of his versatility and reputation as on of the top defenders in the class.
Everybody loves the offensive highlights but a player like Wallace who oozes defensive tenacity can be a rare find.
Keep an eye on his development and just how involved Kentucky chooses to get.
Regardless — fuel up the jet —John Calipari will be heading to the talented littered state of Texas frequently now that his new staff is in place.
