Sunday capped off a weekend that brought back memories of what normalcy feels like. Fans filling arenas for the NBA & NHL Playoffs, gallery crowds following Phil Mickelson up the 18th tee and even fans getting to enjoy the Softball Wildcats’ postseason in Lexington.
In the midst of all the history that was made, only Phil Mickelson’s major championship at 50 years old could potentially overshadow what for Kentucky Wildcat Devin Booker put on display during his first NBA Playoff game.
Against the reigning champion Los Angeles Lakers and face of the league LeBron James, Booker set the Phoenix Suns team record for most points in a playoff debut. Leading all scorers with 34, Booker scored more than a third of his team’s points in a 99-90 victory in game one of their first-round series with LA.

Booker shot 50% from the field, 43% from three and recorded eight rebounds while dishing out eight assists. Whether he was putting a Laker on the block, scoring in transition or spotting up from three, Booker was a constant headache for the Lakers defense on Sunday.
Chris Paul, newest member of the Suns and MVP candidate, rightly deserves his credit for leading this team to the postseason. However, Booker is right there in regards to having his fingerprints on what this team has done so far and what they’re capable of.
LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the rest of the Lakers have championship pedigree, so the series is far from over at this moment. However, Booker and the Suns couldn’t have asked for a better start.
