Kentucky Wildcats landing in the final five for five-star guard Dior Johnson was a bit of a surprise.

There had been little made known about Kentucky’s connection with the No. 5 overall prospect in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. The 6-3 California native was believed to be down to four options: The Australian NBL, Alabama, Oregon, and Washington.

But then, Johnson released a top five and placed Kentucky on the list. As it turns out, Kentucky has extended an offer to Johnson. He let the news out in a response on Instagram.

Johnson, ranked as one of the top point guards in the class, decommitted from Syracuse in the fall. He’s not yet announced a decision date.

Here’s what 247’s Jerry Meyer had to say about Johnson.

“Good length and stature for a point guard. Quick athlete with superb body control. Has tremendous instincts as a driver and passer. Delivers the difficult pass. Finishes the difficult shot. High level lay up maker. Has multiple fade away moves to his right shoulder. Shoots the ball well enough to be considered a three-level scorer. Has potential to rebound his position well and be a dangerous versatile defender. Has bounced around to multiple high school which some view as a yellow flag.”

When the biggest yellow flag is that he has played at multiple high schools? Sounds like a star to me.
