Good morning, Big Blue Nation. It’s going to be a beautiful weekend and it finally feels like summer is here to stay for a while. So get out, find a pool or a golf course and enjoy yourself.

But before you do that, read the Quickies.

Eight Kentucky Wildcats were named to the Athlon Preseason All SEC Team. Mark Stoops and the football team have been receiving a lot of love during this offseason due to the number of impactful returning players, being very successful in the transfer portal, and lighting it up on the recruiting trail.

Success breeds expectations and the expectations are rising. Our beloved Vince Marrow has been making the rounds with various media outlets and, my goodness, Big Dog has been woofing. The coaches and the players are very confident that the upcoming season is going to be hugely successful.

But we have been here before and we’ve been letdown. I think Kentucky has a deep and veteran team. I also think that have some major talent on both sides of the football. The nagging question is the same one that’s been bandied about for the entire Stoops tenure: what’s the deal at quarterback?

Joey Gatewood and Beau Allen are returning for their second year at Kentucky. From what little we heard about the spring season, it seems like Gatewood has an edge on Allen.

But there is a wildcard with incoming Penn State Transfer Will Levis. He is Liam Coen’s handpicked guy and his big arm is making people around the program very excited. Add the piece at the Athletic (subscription) about how he worked with a QB guru to fix his accuracy and now it appears as if Levis may be primed to take the starting job.

Personally I like Joey Gatewood but I’m all for an open QB competition during camp. Let the best man win the job.

Will Mintz and Brooks return? | Cats Illustrated- John Calipari has stacked the guard position to where a Davion Mintz return seems out of the question at this point. It definitely feels like Keion Brooks is returning although he still has not given his official word on the matter. Calipari has cooled on transfer forwards so it seems like he’s expecting Brooks back for his junior season at UK.
