Get ready for a very special treat on this episode of the Kentucky Dad Podcast.
It’s a mom takeover!
Valerie Wade, mother of Kentucky football commits Destin and Keaten Wade, joins the show to tell us more about her sons and why they chose to play at UK.
Valerie Wade is just the second mom to grace us with their presence on the podcast. Previously, the only other was Hayley Minogue from WHAS 11. Both were awesome episodes, so make sure to check them out!
Of course, we are always praising the papas on the show for the work that dads put in.
But come on, it’s no secret that moms are the glue that holds it all together.
Valerie is a self-admitted sports fanatic, so you can imagine the pride she glows with as the mother of two four-star athletes who were highly coveted by high-major programs, including two of Kentucky’s biggest rivals, Tennessee and Louisville.
We talked about heavy stress during the final weeks of their recruitment and how the UK coaching staff stood out from the competition.
For Cats fans, you can’t draw it up any better than going into the state of Tennessee and beating out the Vols (and Cards) for two very special talents.
After the departure of Steve Clinkscale, there was immediate concern that the Wade twins and other 2022 commitments may back out of their pledge now that one of Kentucky’s top recruiters has left the program.
Valerie Wade swiftly chopped those rumors down by tweeting “Not going anywhere. Peer recruiting.”
This tweet fired me up to say the least and I immediately invited her on the podcast.
Not going anywhere. Peer recruiting!

We skipped some of the usual topics, but the content was terrific and really gives you a behind the scenes look at Keaten and Destin’s family before they make the move to Lexington next year.
Without a doubt, the Wildcats are adding some special people in the Wade family to the program. Be sure to listen in and check out all of our previous episodes!
