Kentucky needed to lock the point guard position down and the coaching staff was able to do that last night by landing a commitment from the No. 3 point guard in the 2021 recruiting class, TyTy Washington.
Washington has been on Kentucky’s radar since decommitting from Creighton and watching his stock soar. Now, he joins a long line of five-star point guards to play under John Calipari at Kentucky.
It seemed to be between Kentucky and Arizona, and Kentucky had been gaining a lot of momentum, and when news broke yesterday that Washington was moving up his announcement date, many assumed it would be Kentucky.
Washington figures to play a substantial role in Kentucky’s backcourt next season as a guy who can run the point guard position but can also play off the ball too, especially if Kentucky also lands a commitment from Georgia transfer Sahvir Wheeler.
Washington has drawn some comparisons to former Wildcat Immanuel Quickley on Twitter, pointing out his shooting ability and versatility in the backcourt. I would think most fans love the thought of an IQ-type player joining this roster.
Make no mistake, landing Washington is a major get for Kentucky.
