His finalists include Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas, LSU, Baylor Bears and Ducks, though it’s widely viewed as a UK - Zona battle heading into the decision.
A 6-3, 185-pound guard out of Chandler (AZ), Washington is ranked as the third-best point guard and 16th-best recruit overall in the final 247 Sports rankings for 2021. He was originally committed to Creighton but decommitted on March 11th due to insensitive comments made by head coach Greg McDermott.
Since his decommitment, Kentucky has been the trendy pick and is viewed as the heavy favorite going into tonight.
While Kentucky has a wealth of talent slated to be part of the 2021-22 roster, there’s currently no true point guard in the fold. Nolan Hickman decommitted, Davion Mintz is testing the NBA Draft process, and Devin Askew transferred to Texas.
Even if Washington commits to Kentucky, expect there to also be a veteran floor general on the roster before next season begins, and it appears that will be Sahvir Wheeler.
Of course, Washington will be given the chance to win the starting job regardless of who’s on the roster, and he’s absolutely good enough to win it eventually next season.
