Patrick Baldwin Jr. has committed to the Milwaukee Panthers.
Yes, you read that correctly. The one-time No. 1 overall player in the 2021 class is not going to Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, or even Gonzaga.
Baldwin ended a lengthy recruiting cycle today by opting for Milwaukee, where his father, Pat Baldwin Sr., coaches.
Baldwin is a 6-9 do-it-all forward who’s regarded as one of the better shooters in the class. 247 Sports compares him to Golden State Warriors All-Star Klay Thompson. Baldwin is ranked No. 4 overall in the 2021 class by 247 Sports Composite, which measures all of the main recruiting rankings.
Kentucky was once considered an option for Baldwin, but it ultimately came down to Duke, Milwaukee, and Georgetown before the Panthers out of the Horizon League won out.
While the Wildcats did miss out, this should be viewed as good news. They won’t have to face Baldwin in the 2021 Champions Classic clash with Duke, who would have had a strong argument for a top-five preseason ranking had they landed Baldwin.
