With the excitement that came with the additions of assistant coaches Orlando Antigua and Chin Coleman to the Kentucky Wildcats basketball staff also brought along some mild concern with the Cats’ recruits.

Nolan Hickman has already decommitted, and some are already concerned about whether or not Skyy Clark will ever end up in Lexington. But that’s not the case for five-star power forward Daimion Collins.

In a recent interview with KSR’s Zack Geoghegan at the Allen Iverson Classic, Collins reiterated his commitment to UK.

“[I’m] 100 percent committed and ready to go,” Collins said. “I know they (Antigua and Coleman) can help me get to where I want to be.”

While Joel Justus was actually the main recruiter for Collins, I’m sure Jai Lucas’ Texas connections went a long way in actually getting Collins on board. However, it’s never smart to underestimate the connection players make with their lead recruiter. Hickman, for example, was recruited by Tony Barbee and decommitted shortly after his departure. Whether that was the ultimate cause of his decommitment is unknown, but it certainly played a role.

Collins, on the other hand, is just ready to get to campus and get to work. He trusts the staff changes and didn’t waver on his Kentucky pledge.

While Collins hasn’t had the chance to speak with Antigua or Coleman yet, he said that he plans to “real soon”.

“I’m really excited to get there because I know–the coaches there and everybody else–I know when I get there they’re going to push me to the best that I can be.”

I think it’s safe to say that Big Blue Nation is excited for Collins to get here, too.
