Another former Kentucky Wildcats star is off the board in the 2021 NFL Draft.
With the 200th pick in the sixth round the New York Jets have selected cornerback Brandin Echols.
Echols saw his draft stock rise after an impressive showing at pro day several weeks back. After being considered an undrafted prospect for most of the offseason, he put in the work, and it has paid off in a big way as he realized his NFL dreams!
For his career at Kentucky he played in 24 games, totaling 108 tackles (82 solo), one interception, 12 pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.
Echols has some traits that made him an appealing pick for the Jets. Factor in his elite speed, along with his ability to read routes well at the turning point, pair that with the right coaching. and he will be able to show the ball skills to be a good coverage corner at the professional level. Expect to see him used as a slot corner when he takes the field on Sundays.
Echols becomes the fourth pick overall for Kentucky in this years draft. He is joined by Jamin Davis, Kelvin Joseph and Quinton Bohanna. I have a feeling we are going to hear of at least one more Wildcat who sees his NFL dreams realized before the draft ends.
Echols provides another great success story for Mark Stoops and his staff to put their hat on when it comes to recruiting and developing.
Congrats to Brandin, and best of luck in New York!
