Top-100 recruit, Gavin Wimsatt has decided to play his college football away from home and has committed to Rutgers.

Wimsatt chose the Scarlet Knights over a final four of Kentucky, Cincinnati, and Georgia Tech.

Wimsatt, from Owensboro, comes in at 6-foot-3 and 200lbs. He is ranked as a four-star prospect by 247 Sports which is good enough to be ranked as the third best dual-threat quarterback in America. He is also the top ranked player in the state of Kentucky.

In what could have been a huge commitment for the Kentucky program, it doesn’t come as a shock though due to Rutgers picking up a lot of steam in the last several weeks coming off a visit to Piscataway.

With him also being the primary QB prospect in this class missing out on his commitment puts this staff in a little bit of pickle with a lot of the top options off the board. After the additions of Will Levis and Kaiya Sheron this offseason, alongside Joey Gatewood, Beau Allen, and Nik Scalzo it seems that the offense would be in good hands when it comes to depth at the quarterback position.

That doesn't help the sting much at all though in losing out here, especially when there is a reputation of missing on high level quarterback prospects.

With some big targets still on the board for the 2022 class, locking in on a quarterback prospect and getting him early will be key to potentially adding some more high-level talent around him.

You can't win them all folks. Either way best of luck to Gavin in Piscataway!
