The Cincinnati Reds are off to a hot start this season and fans are left wondering if maybe, just maybe, the Reds will be a contender this year.

Off to a 5-1 start, the Reds have an early lead atop the NL Central with a sweep of the Pirates and winners of 2 out of 3 over the Cardinals earlier. In the three-game series against the Pirates, the Reds outscored Pittsburgh 30-8.

Led by the hot bats of Nick Castellanos and Tyler Naquin (4 homeruns each) and Jonathan India (10 RBI), the Reds have scored the most runs of any team in Major League Baseball and are in the top half of the league in Team ERA.

Obviously the season is young and a lot of baseball is left to be played, but the early returns show there is reason for optimism among the Reds faithful that the team might be poised to make some noise in baseball this year.

The Reds travel to Arizona for a three-game series with the Diamondbacks this weekend, followed by a three-game series in San Francisco with the Giants.
