The Kentucky Wildcats are losing yet another former West Coast recruit to the transfer portal.

According to Travis Branham, freshman point guard Devin Askew is entering the transfer portal.

“With that being said. It will be part of my growth in this game to explore a new opportunity and enter the transfer portal,” Askew told Branham.

Askew, a former five-star recruit out of California, came to Kentucky in the Class of 2020 with a lot of hype as a potential multi-year star in Lexington. However, his first season was anything but, as he struggled mightily to adjust to the college game, especially on the offensive end.

This news comes as a surprise after Askew’s father previously said his son was returning. But given his immense struggles while Kentucky likely brings in several impact guards, it’s not that shocking in reality.

Perhaps this means Davion Mintz is planning to return to join Kellan Grady, Dontaie Allen, Nolan Hickman and another transfer guard in Kentucky’s backcourt (yes, I think Kentucky adds one more backcourt piece).

As for where Askew will land next, the Louisville Cardinals were a major player for Askew, though my early guess would be he goes somewhere back on the West Coast.
