Happy Monday, BBN. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Weekend with family and friends.
Tonight is the finale of the NCAA Men’s college basketball season as the Baylor Bears and the Gonzaga Bulldogs are set to faceoff for the title.
The Bears breezed through their Final Four matchup against the Houston Cougars but the Zags were taken to overtime by the UCLA Bruins in a historically great game. One has to wonder if that game took a little out of the Zags, especially considering the fact that there is only one day separating the Final Four from the title game.
This was the final matchup that most people in college basketball saw coming. Baylor and Gonzaga were arguably the best two teams all season long and it is fitting for them to meet in the final game of the season.
Many in BBN are rooting for Baylor simply because they don’t want Gonzaga to be the first team since 1976 to go undefeated. It still pains many of us that the 2015 team came up two games short of accomplishing that goal.
Either way, I hope we get another amazingly competitive game that goes down to the wire.
Tweet of the Day
BREAKING - Kentucky is the No. 2 overall seed in the 2020-21 NCAA Volleyball Championship!!#WeAreUK pic.twitter.com/9oQKyW3XUw
— Kentucky Volleyball (@KentuckyVB) April 4, 2021
The season started a little later than we are used to but the volleyball team made the most of the opportunity to play.
Quickies
Cal is ready for the season | Cats Pause- John Calipari is itching to get back onto the court after the poor showing from 2020/2021. He has a lot of returning pieces that need to get back to work.
Volleyball racks up postseason honors | UK Athletics- Craig Skinner was named co-coach of the year while Madison Lilley was named SEC Player of the Year and Gabby Curry won SEC Libero of the Year. Congrats to all!
Mississippi State sweeps Kentucky | Cats Illustrated- It was a tough weekend in Starkville as the Cats went 0-3 in a big road series.
Will Gonzaga be considered an all-time great without a title? | CBS- I think people will still place this Zags team with some of the greats but I might be in the same boat.
Stanford holds off Arizona to win the Women’s basketball title | ESPN- 54-53 was the final score as Stanford wins it’s first women’s basketball title in 29 years.
Why Baylor ends Gonzaga’s pursuit of perfection | USA Today- I tend to agree. Baylor matches up with the Zags position for position and they will be the toughest matchup the Bulldogs have faced this season.
10 unforgettable SEC Final Four moments | SDS- The Cats are prominently featured here and for good reason.
Shohei Ohtani wows for Angels | Sporting News- The pitcher threw a 100 m/h pitch and hit hit a homer with 115 m/h velocity in the same inning. The dude is a phenom.
Dane Key’s recruitment a mystery | Your Sports Edge- The in-state four star recruit is being very quiet yet very active in his recruitment. Kentucky is a big time player but it’s not a lock that he ends up staying in the Commonwealth.
Big news over at the radio station that I work at part-time. Kentucky basketball legends Dan Issel and Mike Pratt are hosting a brand new show on from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on ESPN Louisville. It’s going to be a show that dives into a multitude of sports topics, not just Kentucky basketball, We are very excited to have these two Hall of Famers working with us. Tune in and enjoy!
