The Kentucky Wildcats basketball roster is always in flux from April til late summer, but this year it seems even more up in the air. Fans are awaiting decisions from Davion Mintz and Keion Brooks. John Calipari just added transfer guard Kellan Grady to go with big man Oscar Tshiebwe, but he only has three traditional recruits headed to Lexington: Nolan Hickman, Daimion Collins, and Bryce Hopkins.
That means that there could be several holes to fill around returners Dontaie Allen, Devin Askew, Jacob Toppin, and Lance Ware. But in addition to those already mentioned, there are several targets left out there.
With Hunter Sallis , Trevor Keels, and Jaden Hardy off the bound, where will the coaching staff put their energy? What players will they focus on? Will they be looking at the transfer market? Or are there some hidden gems coming out of high school?
Kentucky has thrived in recent years on top recruits. John Calipari has finished at No. 1 or No. 2 in the recruiting rankings every year since he arrived at Kentucky, but for 2021 he sits at No. 5, according to 247Sports.
The reality of this season is that there is much more talent in the transfer pool than remaining in the high school market. Does that mean Coach Cal is done recruiting the seniors? Maybe not. But I would not be surprised if the rest of the roster for Kentucky, and many other teams, is filled with players with college experience.
