Final rankings and mock drafts are coming in with the NFL Draft kicking off on Friday. As for the Kentucky Wildcats, they’re expecting at least two players taken within the first three rounds. One of those players may go within the first 32 picks.
As many of you could guess, that player is Jamin Davis.
Davis among the best linebacker prospects in the NFL Draft and recently ranked as the 23rd-best prospect in Daniel Jeremiah’s final top-150 rankings. Jeremiah is an analyst for NFL Network.
Here’s part of what he had to say on Davis.
“Davis is a tall and lanky off-the-ball linebacker. He has excellent eyes to key, read, fill and finish. He uses his quickness to beat blockers to spots. He is much better working around blocks than taking them on, but he has outstanding lateral range, and his eyes give him a jump-start. He has stopping power as a tackler in the hole, and he really excels against the pass.... Overall, Davis lacks some strength to bang versus blockers, but his speed and playmaking ability jump off the screen. He should be a Day 1, three-down impact player at the next level,” Jeremiah wrote.
Davis took his game to the next level as a junior at Kentucky.
Helping the team win their third straight bowl game and elevating the program’s level of play drastically, Davis finished with 102 total tackles in 10 games. He had three interceptions and four tackles for a loss as well.
Along with Davis, Kelvin Joseph was ranked as the 84th-best prospect. He was a redshirt sophomore and should be a third-round pick. Some have even mocked him as high as an early second-round pick.
Both Joseph and Davis will see their lives changed in the coming days, and it’s terrific to see Kentucky talent make it to the highest level of football!
