Besides Isaiah Jackson, the Kentucky Wildcats have lacked a rim protector since 2015. But there is a guy that fits that mold and is often compared to Willie Cauley-Stein (we are still checking on whether or not he played high school football) in the class of 2022. His name is Dereck Lively II.
Lively is currently a four star recruit, but he is already in constant contact with the Kentucky coaching staff. He is a 7-0 guy that runs the court, jumps out of the gym, and has endless energy. The comparisons to WCS certainly seem to fit, but he has his sights set on even more impressive former Wildcats.
“If I go [to Kentucky], they could show me how to play more like Anthony Davis, because Anthony Davis is my role model,” Lively told KSR this weekend. “He can get to the rim, he can step behind the three, he can block shots, he can guard a guard, he’s an overall great big man.”
Lively is currently the No. 36 overall player and the No. 4 center in the 2022 class, according to the 247 Sports Composite. But his mold is one that greatly appeals to John Calipari, as he has seen great success with WCS and Anthony Davis in Lexington.
Of course, Lively’s recruitment is not a sure thing in Lexington. But you have to think that the bigs they have produced in the league (DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, Willie Cauley-Stein) have to have an impact on his decision.
