TyTy Washington draws high praise after national tournament; gets first UK prediction

Washington could be a diamond in the rough.

TyTy Washington, a four-star recruit and former Creighton commit, picked up a Kentucky offer Tuesday after weeks of rumors swirling that there was interest from the Wildcats coaching staff in him.

Washington is a high four-star recruit, also got an offer from Baylor this week as well. Several recruiting analysts have suggested the 6-3 guard could rise to five-star status in the final 2021 rankings.

Washington is also garnering high praise from scouts after impressing at the Geico Nationals. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony wrote about Washington and his potential:

Washington has had arguably the biggest breakout season of any player in high school basketball, going from borderline top-100 recruit to a five-star caliber prospect. Based on what he showed in Fort Myers, that might be underselling his potential. Washington had a far bigger impact and looks to be a superior prospect than several top-10 recruits who were in attendance. He led AZ Compass Prep to a 28-2 record and its first invitation to the Geico Nationals, where Washington was named to the all-tournament team.

Washington could be a diamond in the rough that Calipari reels in again, similarly to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Tyler Herro. He’s set to announce his top five this weekend, but there’s already a pro-Kentucky prediction from Rivals recruiting expert Travis Graf.

It certainly appears Kentucky is in a good spot for the rising guard.
