Kentucky deemed a winner of the transfer portal thus far

They already have two of the top transfers coming in and will likely add more.

The 2020-21 college basketball season didn’t go the way we wanted it to for the Kentucky Wildcats, but preparations for next season to turn things around are in full swing.

Once again, John Calipari is bringing in one of the top recruiting classes in the country, but he is hitting the transfer portal to fill out his roster for next season.

Some schools are greatly benefitting from the transfer market by bringing in some of the nation’s top talent. However, other schools are losing on the transfer market because they are seeing their talent head elsewhere.

David Cobb of CBS Sports broke down the big winners and losers of the wild offseason in college basketball so far when it comes to transfers. Kentucky was among the winners.

“After one of its worst seasons in a century, Kentucky faces plenty of questions entering John Calipari’s 13th season as coach. But the Wildcats have snagged a couple of nice additions from the portal. Kellan Grady was a prolific scorer and solid 3-point shooter in four seasons at Davidson, and Oscar Tshiebwe was a productive big man in a season and a half with West Virginia. Devin Askew and Cam’Ron Fletcher are headed out via the portal, but Grady and Tshiebwe appear to be clear upgrades.”

Kentucky is already a winner of the transfer market and they are still going to be adding more to the roster in the coming weeks.

Saying this, they have also lost Cam’Ron Fletcher and Devin Askew to the portal, and there have been rumors Keion Brooks is considering a transfer.

Still, even if Kentucky loses all three, getting Grady and Tshiebwe is bigger, and that’s before more additions are likely made.

The new transfer rule is going to change college basketball (in my opinion for the better), and John Calipari is already taking advantage of it.
