With a lot of roster uncertainty for next season, that leaves John Calipari and his staff searching for players to fill his roster out.
A position of need for next season? Guard.
Kentucky would like to add more depth to their backcourt for next season, as we saw how a lack of depth and a lack of good point guards looks running John Calipari’s offense.
Kentucky for sure has Devin Askew and Nolan Hickman locked up for next season, but they will be going after a few more whether that’s through recruiting or the transfer portal.
Enter TyTy Washington. A former Creighton commit, Kentucky first reached out after Washington de-committed from Creighton following Greg McDermott’s comments and suspension. Now Kentucky might be in good position to land him.
Rob Cassidy of Rivals broke down the top contenders for Washington and where each team stands with him. Here is what he had to say about Kentucky:
The Wildcats, who haven’t offered but are in need of a point guard, wasted no time contacting Washington when news of his decommitment from Creighton broke. UK seems unlikely to land five-star target
Hunter Sallis who is expected to choose Gonzaga, so Washington would be a suitable replacement on that front.
If an offer arrives, expect John Calipari to be at the center of the Washington sweepstakes until the end. Making things official with an offer could catapult Kentucky to the top of this list.
Cassidy had Kentucky behind Illinois as the program to beat for Washington, but did state that if Kentucky were to offer, that could instantly catapult them to the top.
Kentucky has gauging the transfer market as well, which is probably the hold up on an offer to Washington for the time being. But it is nice to know Kentucky is in a good spot if they make a push for Washington.
