Transfer season has hit full swing and that might be an understatement as to how busy the portal has been. But there is a name that entered the portal this morning that could end up being interest to Kentucky Wildcats fans.
Jeff Borzello is reporting that Jamal Mashburn Jr. (6’0 160lbs), son of former Kentucky star Jamal Mashburn, has decided to enter the transfer portal after one season at the University of Minnesota.
Minnesota freshman Jamal Mashburn Jr. has entered the transfer portal, sources told ESPN. Former four-star recruit averaged 8.2 points this season.

This almost certainly has to do with the coaching change that happened, as Richard Pitino was let go this week.
As a freshman he finished the season scoring 8.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He also finished shooting 35% on the season, and 27.6% from three.
Now none of these numbers are eye popping by any stretch of the imagination, but he did see his role increase towards the end of the season, which ultimately led to seeing a greater increase in production.
In the final game of the season against Ohio State, he scored 18 points with 3 assists, and 2 rebounds.
Needing to get better on the efficiency standpoint of his game, a change of scenery could be good for the next steps of his game.
A former three-star combo guard recruit chose Minnesota over offers from California, Wake Forest, Auburn, UConn, and a few others.
There haven’t been any reports of Kentucky potentially being interested in adding his services to next seasons roster, but any time a legacy recruit pops up who can make an impact, it is potentially one to keep an eye out for.
