The Kentucky Wildcats are just getting their offseason started, but they won’t have to wait long for one of their top 2021 targets to make his decision.
On Sunday, five-star guard Trevor Keels announced his decision date, which will come April 4th. Kentucky, Duke, Villanova and Virginia make up his four finalists.

A 6-5, 210-pound recruit out of Paul VI Catholic High School in Virginia, Keels is ranked 16th overall by 247 Sports, 19th by ESPN, and 20th by Rivals. All three services list Keels as a shooting guard.
Keels had previously narrowed his final list of schools down to Duke, Virginia and Villanova. Other schools who’ve offered include Florida, North Carolina, Michigan, Louisville and Ohio State.
For much of this recruitment, Duke was seen as the favorite for Keels. However, Villanova has picked up every prediction in the 247 Sports Crystal Ball and Rivals FutureCast since March 9th and looks like a significant favorite heading into decision day.
Seeing as how the Wildcats were so late getting in the mix for Keels, no one is giving them much of a shot to land the top-25 recruit. You’d think John Calipari felt Kentucky had a real shot to offer a scholarship this late, but it still looks like the Cats are far behind.
Despite Kentucky’s struggles this season, they’re expected to lose Terrence Clarke and Brandon Boston Jr. to the NBA Draft, while Davion Mintz may also go pro, so there are going to be backcourt spots up for grabs next season.
I wouldn’t count on Keels filling one of them.
