Well, the offseason recruiting has started quickly for the Kentucky Wildcats,
After decommitting from Creighton earlier today, 2021 four-star point guard TyTy Washington has been contacted by Kentucky, according to Eric Bossi of 247 Sports.
247Sports spoke with a source close to the situation who indicated that programs like Colorado, Dayton, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, Nevada, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Washington and Washington State have already reached out and more are expected to do so in the very near future.
Washington, a 6-3, 185-pound point guard out of Compass Prep in Arizona, decommitted from Creighton in regards to Greg McDermott's recent comments. He’s currently ranked as the 30th-overall player in the 2021 class via 247 Sports Composite.
With Kentucky on the outside looking in on the Hunter Salis recruitment, Washington is a similar type of player that should be a good fit with the mold of point guards Calipari likes to run his system with. Especially with the change of speed, and ability to get by his defender, it will be a welcome sight to fans if he was to play in Lexington next season.
Another positive of this is it gives Kentucky some room if Davion Mintz decides not to return for a second season in Lexington. With Washington’s ability to play off the ball and shoot it well from three, he would be able to play well alongside 2021 signee Nolan Hickman.
Here is what Eric Bossi of 247 Sports had to say of the type of player that just came available.
“A dangerous jump shooter from deep, Washington is elusive off of the dribble thanks to his ability to comfortably handle the ball with either hand, effective changes of speed and a superior command of reading defenders. He makes great decisions out of the pick and roll and he’s developed into a strong communicator and leader who isn’t afraid to get on teammates when needed but also does a tremendous job building up their confidence when needed.”
