Duke likely ends season due to a positive COVID-19 test

Duke pulls out of the ACC Tournament due to positive COVID test.

NCAA Basketball: ACC Conference Tournament-Duke Louisville Nell Redmond-USA TODAY Sports

After beating Boston College and Louisville in consecutive days, and looking like they were gaining some steam just before the NCAA Tournament, Duke has suffered a positive COVID-19 test and will not play tonight, thus ending their season, according to Jeff Goodman.

The Blue Devils become the first major team, and a blue-blood no less, to suffer from a positive COVID-19 test during their conference tournament.

It is an unfortunate turn of events for a team that looked to be playing some of its best ball of the season, especially with the emergence of forward Mark Williams.

And yes, while we don’t like Duke, you never want to see a team end their season off of something that was out of their control. And you especially hate this for the kids on the team. Just an unfortunate end to quite possibly the worst season overall of college hoops.

With Duke’s withdrawal from the tournament, Florida State will now get a triple-bye and move on to the semi-finals of the ACC Tournament.

I expect Duke to be back to their usual top-10 self next season, along with Kentucky.
