The Kentucky Wildcats made a statement Saturday as they finally picked up a comfortable victory by defeating the No. 19 Tennessee Volunteers 70-55 in Knoxville.
With the win, the Cats have now won three in a row to improve their overall record to 8-13 and to an even 7-7 in SEC-play. They also earned their first win over a ranked opponent this season and avenged a loss to Tennessee at Rupp Arena from Feb. 6 that saw the Cats blow a double-digit second-half lead.
Unless multiple makeup games are added, Kentucky will be unable to finish the regular season above. 500 and likely won’t have any chance at earning an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament. But with momentum on their side and a .500 league record giving them a chance for a top seven or higher SEC Tournament seed, Kentucky seems poised to make a run in Nashville and earn an automatic tournament bid.
