Saturday, the Kentucky Wildcats finally got the feel good moment they needed as they took down the Auburn Tigers 82-80.
Despite blowing yet another double-digit lead in the final four minutes, UK finally was able to close a game out which snapped their four game losing streak and improve to 6-13 overall on the season with a 5-7 conference record.
With the win, the confidence appears to be growing in the UK locker room as head coach John Calipari offered nothing but pride and confidence in his team postgame.
“All I can tell you is this team is fighting,” Calipari said. “They haven’t given up one bit.
“We’ve been making strides for three weeks, but you have to have a reward at the end. All the hard work, all the extra conditioning they’re doing and then sacrificing for the team, you gotta win somewhere.”
With respect for his team and the feeling of victory, Calipari has his eyes set on a stunning run in Nashville that would send his team to the NCAA Tournament and be a story he hopes won’t be forgotten.
“I want this team to finish and be something people talk about for the next 20 years,” Calipari said. “I’m trying to get them to believe what I believe.
“This may be one of those years,” Calipari said, doubling down, “that if we keep this going, that I talk about this was the greatest year for me ever.”
