The Kentucky Wildcats got back to the winning side of things as they defeated the Auburn Tigers 82-80 in Rupp Arena. The Cats cruised to a double digit lead in the second half but, like they have all season, they let go of the rope in the final minutes of the game.
But unlike previous games Kentucky was able to hold onto the victory thanks to some big shots down the stretch and some nice shooting at the free throw line.
Vanderbilt is up next on Wednesday so Kentucky will have an opportunity to string together a couple of wins. But it’s too little too late for the regular season. Even if the Cats win the majority of their last five games, it still won’t be enough to make it to the tournament.
Their only hope is the SEC Tournament, which looks likely to happen, and what I’ve seen from this team doesn’t lead me to believe they can come out of Nashville with their bags packed for Indianapolis.

It would have been nice to have had this BJ Boston all season. He’s been really good in the last two games.
Quickies
Kentucky is shooting lights out | Cats Pause- All of a sudden a team that has been historically bad beyond the arch is now hitting from there at a high clip. Kentucky is shooting 44% from three in their last four games.
Cats finally break through in final minutes | Cats Illustrated- Isaiah Jackson picked a great day to have his first double-double of the season. His aggressiveness propelled Kentucky.
Cats snap skid | UK Athletics- These long losing streaks have taken a toll on everybody.
College basketball winners and losers from Saturday | CBS Sports- Auburn is a loser here as they have not won in Rupp Arena in 18 games. At Kentucky is keeping one good streak alive.
Urban Meyer having trouble transitioning to NFL | USA Today- The Jacksonville Jaguars are paying Meyer a ton of money but so far the former college coach isn’t finding it easy in the NFL. The hiring and quick resignation of a former Iowa strength with a past littered with racist rhetoric towards players is proof of that.
5 takeaways from March Madness 2021 | Sporting News- Too bad the Cats won’t have to worry about any of this.
Calipari wants this to be his greatest year ever | Cats Pause- This is reminiscent of Aaron Harrison stating that it was going to be a special ending after a brutal road loss at South Carolina. I hope Calipari is right but I just don’t see it happening.
Daytona 500 viewers guide | ESPN- The NASCAR season kicks off today and, even though I’m not a racing fan, I’d be OK in the Florida sun right now.
