Back in August, freshman wide receiver Dekel Crowdus suffered a knee injury that has kept him out most of fall camp and the first five games of the season.
Will Crowdus be able to return soon and provide a much-needed boost to the Kentucky Wildcats’ struggling passing game?
According to Ryan Lemond of KSR, Crowdus is a couple of weeks out from his return to the field.
“Saw him Saturday before the game. Got to talk to him,” Lemond said on Wednesday morning. “He said he was still a couple of weeks out. He’s running a little bit now, but he’s still a couple weeks out before he’s ready to play.”
Mark Stoops also addressed his availability and the workload he has done so far.
“He’s been working and getting better, but he’s just been with the trainers at this point,” Stoops said.
There was a fear that when the injury happened in August, it would require surgery and cost him his freshman season. Luckily though, Lemond also reported shortly after that he would not have to surgery on his knee.
The former 4-star recruit out of Fredrick Douglas High School in Lexington, has the top-end speed that would have allowed him to see some snaps in the early part of this season. Especially with the absence of Josh Ali for the next several weeks, having another receiver that can take the top off of the defense would have been quite useful.
From the way it sounds, we should expect Kentucky to keep Crowdus’ redshirt by not letting him play in more than four games. So perhaps he could return to play in the final three weeks vs. New Mexico State, Vanderbilt and Louisville, then the bowl game.
