This week I had the pleasure of recording an episode of the Kentucky Dad Podcast with John Huang of Nolan Media.
If you follow John at all you know he doesn’t silo his efforts all into one place but rather spreads his talents amongst various media outlets, including serving as the editor for JustTheCats.com.
He’s also written several books.
His latest work, Kentucky Passion, is a great read for the entire family and can be purchased on Amazon.
By John’s own admission, coming up with an original idea for a Kentucky Athletics themed book required some soul-searching.
The ultimate direction he chose to take the project was unique and intriguing.
Kentucky Passion is compromised of 52 iconic moments in UK sports history.
If you’re like me, you might be thinking — why’d John choose 52?
52 weeks in year, duh!
Thus making it a perfect publication for a weekly Big Blue devotional of sorts.
For each of those 52 memorable moments in UK history, John details his personal experience with the event while also tying in practical life lessons that can be applied to your everyday life.
Example: The 1994 Mardi Gras miracle when the Wildcats came back from down 31 points to beat LSU on a last-second shot.
The obvious life lesson is to never give up no matter how the bad the odds are stacked against you.
Now that I’ve plugged John’s book so he doesn’t hurt me, I can mention more of what we discussed on the podcast.
Without a doubt I can say that this guy knocked the standard Dad Pod questions out of the park!
From his favorite TV Dad to detailing his childhood nickname, it was all gold.
I also had the chance to learn about John’s daughter, Katie, and her decision to stay in Southern California after she graduated from USC.
I wasn’t surprised at all to learn that she’s also minted herself as an author and successful business owner.
John’s Dad joke to end the podcast produced one of the biggest laughs I’ve had in a while.
If for no other reason, check out this episode just for that knee-slapping showstopper.
I really appreciate John for taking the time to come on the podcast just hours removed from Kentucky basketball media day.
If there was ever somebody who truly bleeds blue, it’s Dr. John Huang.
I praised him on the show for always showing up as his true authentic self.
In world full of much of the same, John isn’t afraid to mix it up a bit, even when it comes to Swaggy Cal.
