NCAA Football: Louisiana State at Kentucky Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports

Mark Stoops has been working for years to build the Kentucky Wildcats football program to this point. He’s defeated the Florida Gators twice. He’s defeated the Tennessee Volunteers twice. He has gone to five straight bowl games and has won three in a row. He’s had a top 25 finish. He has surpassed multiple teams in the SEC East on the way to becoming the second most tenured coach in the conference and earning the respect of his peers.

Now comes the biggest challenge of all: win the SEC East.

The Georgia Bulldogs are playing defense on a level not seen since the 2011 Alabama Crimson Tide. They’ve had a total of 33 points (only three touchdowns) scored on them all season long. They’ve been called the college version of the 1985 Bears defense that has been hailed as the greatest defense of all time.

This is a national game the likes the Cats have never seen. They’re on ESPN College Gameday, SEC Nation and they’ll be the 3:30 PM CBS game. All eyes are on this matchup and the question is how will these Cats perform? So far this season they’ve been more physical than every team they’ve faced. They’ve bullied traditional SEC powers Florida and LSU. UGA head coach Kirby Smart has raved about the physicality of UK.

Can they do the unthinkable? Can they bust down this next door on the way to Atlanta for the SEC title game? That’s what is on the line today. Not just some streak, although the Dawgs have defeated the Cats 11 straight times.

I don’t think it will happen but I think the Cats will fight and I think they make it a game for a large portion of the contest. But how they finish is what counts.

Tweets of the Day

This uniform combo is absolutely fire.

I was a part of that crowd last night along with my son and it was good to be back in Rupp chanting “Go Big Blue”.

Headlines

Do the Wildcats have a chance? | SDS- A chance? Yes. How much of a chance? Most people tend to think it’s 10% or less.

The Georgia D-Line is a bad matchup for the Cats | Cats Pause- It’s behind a paywall but it’s worth the read if you can get to eat. I thought this would be strength on strength but this may not be the case.

Why is Georgia such a heavy favorite over an undefeated top 15 team? | WDRB- It’s all about results: Georgia has crushed every team they’ve except one and that was Clemson.

Inside track to Atlanta on the line as Cats travel to Athens | UK Athletics- Whichever team wins will deal the other their first loss in the SEC and will hold the tiebreaker.

Memorable moments from BBM | UK Athletics- The moment that stood out to me the most was when the late Terrence Clarke was honored by John Calipari and the team. The crowd of 20,000 plus cheered on the family of Clarke and showed them what he means to BBN.

Reasons to be optimistic for UK basketball | Vaught’s Views- There is plenty here. This team may not be one of Cal’s super athletic super teams but they’re going to be damn good. They’re going to be very different from what we’ve seen here under John Calipari.

Shaedon Sharpe throws down monster slam | KSR- The number one player in 2022 may be here sooner than later.

Kentucky volleyball sweeps LSU | UK Athletics- The Tigers know who runs things.

Week 7 bold predictions | SDS- These predictions have been scary accurate and I would be on board for this one. Would love a win but showing we belong is as important as anything.

CBS picks | CBS- It’s shaping up to be a slugfest between the Hedges with the Dawgs coming out on top.

Is Kentucky primed to cause more college football caos? | ESPN- It’s been a wild season and one of the best we’ve had in years.

Not much faith in the Cats | USA Today- It’s a clean sweep for the Dawgs over at USA Today.

I will be on the airwaves at 2:00 PM for the UK at Georgia pregame show and will be back on the airwaves for the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife UK Postgame Show. Tune in and have some fun!
