Kentucky’s lone returning player from last season has officially rejoined the team after a brief absence (due to injury) to start the year. Keion Brooks has been cleared to play by UK doctors and should be available against the team’s matchup with Florida on Saturday.
Though he’ll surely be eased in, Kentucky could sure use a “veteran” presence on the court. While Brooks has been able to lead via the locker room and gain the trust of his teammates, they need him more than ever on the hardwood.
Kentucky has finally strung together back to back wins (all-be-it by eight total points) and Brooks can be the glue that holds the team’s success together. He certainly wasn’t the star of the show last season, but Brooks knows what Calipari expects better than anyone. His leadership on the court will be more valuable than any stat he can record.
The severity of his injury was never disclosed, so it’ll be worth monitoring how he progresses in warmups on Saturday and then throughout the contest itself.
