After struggling to a 1-6 start, the Kentucky Wildcats are hoping the month of January gets this team back on the right track.
It started off well with Kentucky winning a double-overtime thriller at Mississippi State this past weekend to get win No. 2 and start 1-0 in SEC play. The Cats get another big road test this Saturday vs. the Florida Gators, which will tip off at 5 pm EST on ESPN.
Later this month on Jan. 30, the Cats get an even bigger test at home when they host the Texas Longhorns, who are ranked No. 4 in the newest Coaches and AP Top 25 Polls. That game will be broadcast on ESPN at 8 pm EST.
Texas is coming off an 84-59 demolition of the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence and are now 8-1 this season. The Longhorns’ lone defeat was a 68-64 home loss to Villanova, who is currently ranked No. 3 in both major polls.
While Kentucky has a lot of work to do, beating a top-10 Longhorns team would certainly be a major boost toward getting an NCAA Tournament berth.
This week’s game in Gainesville is easily one of the most challenging games left on Kentucky’s schedule. The Gators are 5-1 and ranked 22nd in the first NET rankings. Their lone defeat was a road loss to Florida State, which was the game Keyontae Johnson had his medical emergency after Florida led 11-3 early on.
